5 Questions: Alex Walton Edition

Alex Walton is a Producer, Composer, Vocalist, Playwright, and all around Great Guy living in Tucson, AZ. He is currently working on his Doctorate in the Study of Ants at the University of Arizona.

What was the first concert you ever saw?
I'm not exactly sure what my first concert was. The earliest one I can remember, though was Tower of Power.

What was the first album you owned?
Will Smith's Big Willie Style. I'm not super proud of that, but I believe it's pretty characteristic of most people from my generation to have Big Willie Style as their first album.

What artist, genre or musical trend does everyone seem to love, but you just don't get?
All of my friends love the band Girls, and I just can't get into them. They're a product of the whiny post-folk pop movement that I can't stand. I usually respect my friends' musical opinions so I have to assume that they're not actually listening to the music. Girls has a fantastic band name and a music video with penises in it, and I can only assume that my friends can't divorce their image from their music.

What musical act, current or defunct, would you most like to see perform live?
Parliament-Funkadelic, and I don't mean the group that's touring now. I want to see the 70's group with George Clinton in his prime, and Bootsy, and everybody else, and I want to see Clinton step out of the Mothership!

What band or artist changed your life, and how?
James Brown. He didn't change my life, he MADE my life! When I was very very young, I used to entertain guests at holidays like Passover and Thanksgiving by dancing to James Brown. His music and style have been a part of me longer than I can remember.

We can plant a house, We can build a tree.

Today I come home. I'm excited. Lot's of new things to come: new bands, new art projects, new hobbies... My flight is delayed by a million hours cause the Denver Airport is ran by a bunch of amateurs, but I'll see you as soon as I can. <3
